Charity group needs help
FAMILIES across the Cassowary Coast are feeling the pinch of soaring living costs and the demand for emergency food relief in Innisfail is surging with the Community Support Centre Innisfail (CSCI) now assisting about 30 families every week through its Community Harvest Box Project.

Launched in July 2025, the Community Harvest Box Project has become a vital lifeline for locals facing financial hardship. With only limited state funding available for emergency relief, CSCI is calling on the community and local businesses to help keep pantry shelves stocked and assist vulnerable individuals and families.
The centre is seeking donations of non-perishable food items, including baked beans, pasta, pasta sauce, two minute noodles, rice, muesli bars, long life milk, tinned fruit, tinned soup, tinned corned beef, condiments, tinned spaghetti and cereal. Drop off for any food donations is at the Community Centre Innisfail reception at 13-17 Donald Street, between 9am and 4pm.
CSCI is also encouraging local growers, producers and businesses to contribute fresh produce or offer discounted goods to support the ongoing project. By partnering with local supply chains and community groups, the initiative aims not only to provide immediate food relief, but to strengthen regional economic resilience.
Distribution of the food hampers takes place at the centre every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 9am and 12pm. Community members seeking emergency relief do not need an appointment, they are welcome to visit during distribution hours and complete an application form.
For more information, contact the centre on 4043 8400.
