Don’t forget to keep it clean

FISHING is a way of life on the Cassowary Coast – and with its pristine creeks, blue water, islands, and reefs, it’s easy to see why. From freshwater streams to the outer reef in the Coral Sea, the region offers an angler’s paradise.

Cast a line for trophy-sized Barramundi, chase the spirited Spanish mackerel offshore, or explore wide estuaries where elusive mangrove jacks lurk. Drop a pot for succulent mud crabs, or join a local charter for the ultimate day on the water. It’s all part of the Cassowary Coast’s prime fishing adventures.

With fishing such an integral part of local life, the Cassowary Coast Local Marine Advisory Committee (CCLMAC) has partnered with the community to help reduce plastic marine debris. The initiative includes the installation of fishing tackle bins and cigarette butt bins at popular fishing hotspots across the region.

Made entirely from recycled materials, the specially designed tackle bins encourage the proper disposal of unwanted fishing gear and raise awareness about protecting local marine environments.

Tackle bins have been installed at the following locations:

  • Innisfail Public Wharf

  • Perry Harvey Jetty

  • Clump Point Boat Ramp

  • Dunk Island Jetty

  • Cardwell Jetty

For bin maintenance, contact CCLMAC at cassowarycoast.lmac@gmail.com.

And remember – stay croc wise, boat wise and enjoy your Cassowary Coast fishing adventure responsibly.
