Good numbers of flathead, bream, queenfish and trevally are being caught around the river mouths and on the beaches. If you don’t have a boat, the beach or jetty is a great place to take the kids for school holidays. Good quality bait is essential to increase your catch. Squid, mullet herring and prawns are all good options and available in store at Tackle World Tully.

The offshore and reef fishing has been great over the last few weeks with good numbers of coral trout and nannygai reportedly being caught. Quality Red emperor has been turning up in their usual deep-water spots and there are numerous reports of Spanish mackerel still being caught.

Don’t forget the upcoming reef red fin and Spanish mackerel closures. The best way to keep up to date is to download the Queensland fishing 2.0 app on your phone. The app will give you all the latest information to keep you informed and up to date. It also has bag limits and legal size limits to ensure your aware of what you can catch and keep.

Fishing around the islands is also producing good quality coral trout, along with some solid grassy sweet lip. We have some spectacular islands and reefs in the area and whether you are fishing or just enjoying the sites it is a magical place to be.

The ferry is running again to dunk island and there is also charter boats available from Mission Beach if you are looking for a fishing adventure.

Remember to stay safe on the water and always get an up-to-date weather forecast before planning your next fishing trip.
