Funding for sand works
SEVERAL beaches on the Cassowary Coast will receive state government-funded coastal replenishment works as part of the region’s broader coastal recovery program.

The works aim to restore and protect foreshore areas following the impacts of ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper and the severe weather event in February. Activities will include sand scraping, nourishment and revegetation to reinstate the beaches ahead of the next wet season.
Works will start soon along Marine Parade in Cardwell. Once works in Cardwell are complete, the program will continue north throughout the region, including South Mission Beach, Wongaling Beach, Mission Beach, Bingil Bay, Cowley Beach, Kurrimine Beach and Etty Bay
As part of this program, residents and adjacent property owners are asked to remove any personal items from the council foreshore, including boats, beach furniture and other equipment, before works start.
The sand replenishment works will also complement the ongoing clean-up activities occurring currently in Cardwell at One Mile Creek, including depositing screened material on the foreshore.
For further information contact the council at 1300 763 903.
