A spirited display in Ladies championships
THE final of the Innisfail ladies’ pairs competition took place on 25 February with a spirited late challenge, and the final result seeing Dell Steve and Jan Dunn claim this year’s championship title from Marilyn Allen and Helen Paterson, 25 - 14.
Steve and Dunn took an early lead of 18 - 0 on the first nine ends but had to fight off a strong comeback by Allen and Paterson in the second half.
Eight ladies enjoyed a game of social bowls where Diana O’Brien, Christine Pascoe, Dian Catelan and Vera Rowe defeated Louise Hoskins, Margaret Wardrope, Carol McRobbie and Daphne Kirkman 14 - 12. The Hoskins team held a lead of 11 - 1 after seven ends but won only one of the final nine ends.
The semi-final of the mixed pairs competition took place on 27 February and went down to the wire with a measure on the last end. Sam Micale and Marilyn Allen edge out Mark Elliott and Christina Pascoe 20 - 18.
Micale and Allen will now face last year’s defending champions, Sam Pagano and Diana O’Brien in the final which will be played on 6 March.
