Accolades for cane grower
INNISFAIL canegrower Joe Marano has been recognised for his commitment to best-practice cane farming after achieving a Smartcane BMP’s third audit accreditation.

His first accreditation was in October 2015. Smartcane BMP has played a key role in supporting sustainable production across the MSF Sugar supply region.
The Canegrowers Innisfail chairman’s dedication to continuous improvement on his farm is part of the bigger story behind a recent milestone – a groundbreaking shipment of sustainably produced raw sugar by MSF Sugar, showcasing the strong environmental credentials of Queensland’s cane industry.
Programs like Smartcane BMP help growers demonstrate responsible farming practices across soil health, nutrient management and environmental stewardship, ensuring Australian sugar continues to meet the expectations of global markets looking for verified sustainable products.
The milestone highlights the strength of the entire supply chain, growers, facilitators, mills and marketers, working together to prove that Queensland sugar is not only world-class, but responsibly produced.
