Alexander Drive back to two lanes, although at reduced speed limit

ALEXANDER Drive at Bingil Bay – which had been down to one lane only for several months – is now back to two lanes open, albeit at reduced speed. “Now that the wet season is behind us, there’s less of a risk of more material coming down onto the road,” a Cassowary Coast Regional Council post said.

“We have quite a few potholes to fix, so traffic management is going to be in place for the next little while. There is also a reduced speed limit (20km/h).”

The area experienced significant land slips due to heavy rainfall in late December.

“Since then, we’ve been securing the site to make it possible for a contractor to remedy the slips,” the post said.

“A contractor will take possession of the site potentially around July and it’s possible they will reintroduce the traffic light system.

“In the meantime, we wanted to open the road up – we know it’s been a bit frustrating and there have also been a few close calls.”
