Art for art’s sake

INNISFAIL’S St Vincent de Paul Op Shop has transformed into one of the town’s most unexpected creative spaces, with Art 4 Art Sake which opened on 6 October as part of Riverfest and proving that art can flourish anywhere – even between clothing racks and second hand treasures.

Celebrating repurposing, recycling and imagination, the colourful exhibition invites visitors to see everyday objects through fresh eyes.

Curator Bernard KC said the showcase highlighted the region’s artistic talent while strengthening community ties.

“This exhibition is a celebration of Cassowary Coast artists with a focus on Innisfail talent,” he said.

“We’ve also collaborated with the Innisfail and District Historical Society, who will have historic prints for sale, with funds going back to the society.”

The exhibition is also a chance for Vinnies to spotlight its role in supporting local creativity.

Store manager Dixie Webb, who has worked at the op shop for seven years, said the event aligned with the organisation’s values.

“We love supporting artists by sourcing affordable and recyclable supplies instead of them going to landfill,” she said.

“Our head office asked us to promote the shop alongside a local event, so we chose Riverfest.”

A passionate artist herself, Ms Webb will also have her wearable art on display, adding another creative dimension to the exhibition.

To mark the celebrations on 9-10 October, the store will hold a 50% off sale.

The shopfront windows now feature sculptural works, ceramics and three dimensional pieces.
