Athletes run for satisfaction
CASSOWARY Coast Athletics have celebrated club and individual achievements of their 62 members at their annual awards presentation and end-of-season barbecue held at Warrina Lakes.

Throughout 2025, athletes achieved success at the Tolga pentathlon, Rainforest Rush in Mossman, twilight carnival in Cairns, Tropical North Queensland Regional Championships in Tolga and winter carnival in Townsville.
In September, Cassowary Coast Athletics 19 members took part in the regional championships held in Tolga and took home the march past trophy.
This year, the club ran its inaugural tiny tots’ program, a fundamental movement skills program designed for children aged three to five, which teaches the basics of running and jumping, as well as essential skills for all round athletic development.
Each week, organiser Abigail (surname withheld) with the help of parents ran a dedicated program with a mixture of athletic based games and events which ran alongside the under six to 16 age groups.
Club nights focus on individual performances, where athletes push themselves for consistent self-improvement in all events, as well as competing against themselves and striving to beat their personal bests.
The club’s AGM is on Friday, 30 January 2026 at 5pm at the clubhouse (athletics shed) where all positions will become vacant, followed by a working bee on Saturday 31 January at the clubhouse and many hands make light work, with the 2026 sign on and season to start on 6 February.
Athletes who achieved 10+ PBs received medals, as well as a pair of socks, 20+ a towel and 30+ a backpack, towel and socks.
The highest personal bests were achieved by Troy Jackson (31), Jasmine Zupp (33) and Mia Aquilina (30) with Noah Jackson achieving the most with 36 PBs.
Age champions received trophies based on points gained for each event they participated in on Friday nights and the number of personal bests achieved.
The season’s overall winner was Jasmine Zupp with 145 points, who received a $20 Coles voucher.
