The event, titled Back to the 80s – Step Back in Time, will run on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 April from 9pm. Entry is free, with the event open to patrons aged 18 and over.

Local band Big Noise will headline the nights, supported by DJBEasy, delivering what organisers describe as an “80’s sound and visual experience”.

Frontman Adrian Cartwright will perform alongside band members Jock Williamson, Dale Monaghan and Brad Townsend, covering a range of music from British New Wave to American anthems, as well as New Zealand pop and Australian rock.

The performances follow the success of previous 1980s-themed events at the venue.

Entertainment manager Bruce Stewart said the event was part of a milestone celebration for the casino.

“We couldn’t celebrate 30 years without bringing back this smash hit sensation,” he said.

This event is part of the 30-year celebrations of The Reef Hotel Casino, celebrating all year.

The night aims to recreate the atmosphere of the 1980s, referencing key cultural moments from the decade, including the rise of Nintendo, the appearance of Halley’s Comet and the popularity of the Rubik’s Cube.
