‘Balance the scales’
COMMUNITY groups and organisations are being invited to apply for funding to deliver events and activities for International Women’s Day 2027.

International Women’s Day is held annually on 8 March and the 2027 theme ‘Balance the Scales’, highlights the importance of ensuring every woman and girl is safe, respected and free to shape her own life. The theme also draws attention to ongoing barriers including discrimination, violence, and unequal access to justice, while encouraging fairer systems and stronger communities for all.
The International Women’s Day grants program has opened and closes on 4 November 2026, with grants of up to $750 available to support one-off local projects and events across the Cassowary Coast region.
Mayor Teresa Millwood said council was “proud to support local initiatives that celebrate women and strengthen community connections across the region”.
She said the day was “an important opportunity to recognise the achievements of women in our communities and reflect on the work still needed to achieve gender equality”.
