Barras biting well in estuaries
... WHILE jungle perch and sooty grunter in creeks and rivers. Offshore is a no-goer

Freshwater
THE recent rains have got the freshwater systems flowing, getting the jungle perch and sooty grunter active.
Plenty are being caught mostly on surface lures such as the Jackson RA pop and the duo PocoPoco.
With the rains and the marchflies around now, top water can be your best bet as the fish are actively hunting the surface for marchflies and any unlucky critters getting washed down the rivers from the rain.
Estuary
GREAT barramundi reports are still coming in.
It’s been a great few weeks for barra anglers as plenty are still being caught.
Once again, the only things they seem to be taking are prawn imitations with the new Bait junkie 4in prawn being the stand-out.
Most of the barras being caught have been on a very slow wind, dragging the prawn lure through laydown timber, which is why it’s important to run a good quality weedless hook.
I’d recommend the new weedless jig head, also from Bait junkie, as you can get heavier weights to get into those deeper snags while remaining completely weedless.
Plenty of fingermark are being reported in the Hinchinbrook Channel, mostly on big live baits.

When the wind is up, Hinchinbrook can be a great option as the island acts as a natural wind break. There are also plenty big grunter being found in the same areas as the fingermark.
If you’re willing to spend a bit of time on the sounder some great fishing can be had in these areas and is a great option when we have poor weather.
Offshore
UNFORTUNATELY, the offshore segment is going to be quite short this week as the wind continues to prevent any reef boats from leaving the shed.
Looking at the forecast for the next week, it isn’t looking promising. Now would be a great time to get your fishing gear serviced and ready to go as you won’t have to fear of missing out on a calm day.
Tight lines, be safe and good luck.
