Beach back to sandy best

ACROSS 38 days starting in early November, over 4600sqm or 6670 tonnes of sand was delivered and spread at South Mission Beach.

A Cassowary Coast Regional Council spokeswoman said it was part of coastal replenishment works to restore and protect foreshore areas following TC Jasper in 2023 and the February 2025 severe weather event.

“Works have also been completed in Cardwell. Next stop is Kurrimine Beach in the new year, followed by Wongaling Beach, Mission Beach, Bingil Bay, Cowley Beach and Etty Bay,” she said.

“Funding for these works was provided by a combination of Queensland Reconstruction Authority/Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, and the QCoast2100 Program.”
