Bowlers roll on to green in stifling and humid conditions
DESPITE stifling and humid conditions, a field of 37 bowlers were keen for an afternoon of men’s social bowls on 15 January. Players waited for a thunderstorm to pass as it provided refreshing showers and cooled things down on the green.

Winners of social bowls on 15 January were: Alf Siliato, Snow Clark and Rob Croatto with a score of 23, while Malcolm Bright, Bill Hoskins and Ted Pearce finished as runners up with only one point separating the two teams.
Currently, Innisfail players are competing in the Barry Wallis Memorial Shield which first started in 2021.
Barry Wallis was a well-respected member of the Innisfail lawn bowls fraternity. He was the runner up of the club championship in 2017, the year of his death.
Clubs from Cairns to Silkwood participate in the event hosted by various clubs throughout the Tropical Far North Queensland district.
On 24 January, an Innisfail team will compete in the Sam Rinaudo Memorial Shield, which first started in 2017.
Section one features teams from Marlin Coast, Edge Hill, Mossman and Stratford, Ravenshoe, South Johnstone, Atherton and Yungaburra (section two), with West Cairns, Weipa, Brothers Edmonton, Innisfail and Babinda (section three) with play over three rounds. The finals and semi-finals take place on 25 January.
Salvatore (Sam) Rinaudo, who died in 2011, was considered a real gentleman and great bowler with a long association with the Innisfail club, as a player, committee member and in administration. The well-known bus driver conducted many bowls and recreational trips over the years.
