Bowling them over
INNISFAIL Bowls Club has marked individual and team achievements throughout 2025 at their annual awards presentation and Christmas celebration held at the club.

For the past four years, Michael de Vries has taken out the men’s singles championship, while Innisfail ladies’ president Helen Paterson won her third consecutive ladies’ singles title.
Club stalwart, Gordon Goes, who first started playing bowls in 1994 in Normanton and has an association with the Innisfail club for 25 years, received life membership and was presented with a special plaque by club president Alf Strano.
During his time at the club, his many achievements include representing Innisfail in pennants, B-grade runner up in 2009, B-grade winner in 2010, A-grade runner up in 2016 and 2019, pairs runner up in 2019, consistency winner in 2022, as well as triples winner and runner up in the fours and consistency in 2024.

Goes, who has been a board member since 1999, previously held the roles of treasurer, secretary, president, games director, club selector, club delegate, umpire, coach and grants officer, as well as a delegate and current treasurer of Far North Queensland.
Mr Strano also presented veteran’s badges to Joe Van Tienen and David Leach and a super veterans’ badge to Jan Edgerton, Kath O’Brien and John Fossey.
