Brash and vibrant
LOCAL curator Bernard KC is not just launching an exhibition – he is transforming Mission Arts into a full-scale cultural event that blurs the line between gallery show and festival.

Bernard + 10 Artists and Artisans celebrate bold scale, individuality and community, redefining what an art exhibition can be in North Queensland.
At a time when many gallery openings are quiet, understated affairs, Mr KC is doing the opposite.

His latest show is immersive, energetic and unapologetically vibrant, bringing together visual art, performance and community participation in one dynamic space.
Mr KC said he would highlight his signature shell crosses and shell mirrors, pieces inspired by nature and shaped by time spent in the Australian landscape.

The fashion photographer said he drew creative energy from nature and human connection. He said he was deeply committed to supporting emerging and unconventional artists, championing creators who might never have imagined seeing their work in a gallery.

Featured artists include Benjamin Josef, Cath Officer, Ebb Harber, Hilary Tredgett, Jennifer Payne, Judy Brady, Liz Gallie, Maria De Los Angeles Pena, Marilyn Pett, Pauline Roberts, Rebecca Arnall-Smith, Sally Moroney, Sanita, Stuart Lloyd, Justin McCallum, Viv Cassady, Yuki Horiki and Yvonne Frizzo.
“These artists are diverse and varied,” Mr KC said. “You’ll see everything from abstract paintings and cement sculptures to hand-carved wooden stack signs, clay lamps, hand-painted coconuts, bold contemporary works, artisan jewellery and pottery.”

“Bernard + 10 Artists and Artisans is not just an exhibition. It is a community-driven cultural event that invites everyone to step inside, connect and be part of something bigger.”
Opening night at Mission Arts on Friday 22 May runs from 3pm-8pm.
