Cardwell Lions making it easier for elderly patients
AFTER becoming aware of the difficulties for elderly patients having to remain for extended periods on standard surgery platforms while receiving treatment such as infusions, Cardwell Lions saw the urgent need for better facilities.
Club member Lee Porter said following discussions with Cardwell Medical Practice, a decision was made to buy a posture lift chair designed to provide more comfort, costing $3246.88.
He said it was funded by their weekly goose club raffles at the Marine Hotel every Saturday and donations from the community.
“Cardwell Lions is a volunteer organisation dedicated to assisting the community and had previously donated special higher lifted chairs with arms for ease of elderly patients and a vein finder for ease of blood tests,” Mr Porter said.
“Cardwell Lions will continue to monitor community health needs and assist when they can.”
Cardwell Medical Practice manager/nurse Christine Ihle said “the generous gift” was much appreciated and would give greater comfort to their patients.
Mr Porter said club members donated their time and resources to community and beneficial needs.

Club meetings are held on the third Sunday of the month at the Lions Hall at 9.30am.
