A Cassowary Coast Regional Council spokeswoman said over five weeks, council heard from the community through the ‘Your Say’ page, interactive mapping tool and a local workshop.

“Feedback confirmed the foreshore as Cardwell’s most valued walking destination, along with a clear need for better connections, safety and comfort across the network,” she said.

The spokeswoman said as a result, the draft plan had been updated to include:

  • Stronger connections to the foreshore shared path

  • Upgrades to key routes including Gregory Street and the Bruce Highway

  • New pedestrian crossings and improved safety features

  • Additional lighting, seating and amenities along walking routes.

“Council will work with Transport and Main Roads to finalise the walking network plan, which will guide future investment in walking infrastructure across Cardwell, subject to funding opportunities,” she said.
