Cassowary Coast combo wins memorial shield
BABINDA Bowls Club has hosted the Barry Wallis Memorial Shield playoffs and finals, where a combined Innisfail–South Johnstone team surged to victory and claimed the overall title.

Clubs from Cairns to Silkwood participated in the event which saw South Johnstone as runners ups and Babinda in third place.
Barry Wallis was a well-respected member of the Innisfail lawn bowls fraternity. He was the runner up of the club championship in 2017, the year of his death. Bowlers have played in this annual event named in honour of Barry Wallis since 2021.
Daughter Sue Wallis attended and presented the shield to the winning team.
Winners of social bowls on 12 February were Michael de Vries, John Morrison and Sam Pagano, while Snow Clark, Bill Hoskins and George Edgerton finished as runners up.
Thursday afternoon social bowls winners on 5 February, were Wayne O’Neill, Justin Walker and Les Cali declared the winners.
New members and visitors are most welcome to join in on Thursdays, with names to be in by 12.30pm for a 1.00pm start. The cost is $15 which includes two games of 12 ends, smoko and jackpot.
This Friday 20 February, Innisfail Bowls Club will host the International Legends of League which will feature local bowlers and former rugby league stars on the green for a fun afternoon.
