Cent sale harmony
GLORIOUS winter weather, a huge crowd and an extraordinary community effort combined to create something truly special at Mundoo State School’s 2026 mega cent sale.
From the moment the gates opened, the school grounds were buzzing as families, former students, locals and visitors from across the Cassowary Coast poured in for what has become much more than a fundraiser, but a genuine celebration of community.
The centrepiece of the day was the mega cent sale, with 187 prizes donated by generous businesses, families and supporters.
Ticket sales were strong and each draw brought cheers, laughter and plenty of excitement as happy winners collected their prizes throughout the afternoon.
The event offered much more than the cent sale itself. A bustling cake stall, barbecue, tuckshop, face painting, kids’ corner, student council stall, community stalls and friendly farm animals ensured there was something for everyone.
Generations of families wandered the grounds together, enjoying the relaxed, country school atmosphere Mundoo is known for.
Visitors were quick to praise the event.
One attendee said: “This is what a community event should be, families together, children having fun and everyone supporting a great little school.”
Another added: “I couldn’t believe how many prizes there were or how many people turned up.
“The atmosphere was fantastic, Mundoo has really put on an amazing day.”
A long time supporter summed it up simply: “You can feel the community spirit as soon as you walk through the gate. Everyone pitches in and the kids are right at the heart of it.”
Principal Andrew Maley said the greatest achievement wasn’t the number of prizes or the funds raised, but the unity shown across the school and wider community.
He praised the Mundoo State School P&C Association, staff, parents, students, volunteers and supporters for their exceptional commitment.
“Events of this magnitude don’t happen without enormous preparation, generosity and goodwill,” he said.
He offered particular thanks to Lori Baker and the P&C committee for their leadership and countless hours of organisation.
Volunteers played a vital role, whether by selling tickets, cooking on the barbecue, serving in the tuckshop, arranging prizes, baking, supervising activities, setting up, packing away and completing countless behind the scenes tasks.
Local businesses also contributed generously with prize donations, goods and services, demonstrating strong support for the small country school.
Funds raised will directly benefit students through resources, opportunities and experiences, but the impact goes well beyond fundraising. The mega cent sale strengthened relationships, brought people together and showcased what a united community can achieve.
As the crowd enjoyed the sunshine and festivities, one message was unmistakable: Mundoo may be small, but when its community comes together, it achieves something very big indeed.
