Changing of A-grade singles guard at Innisfail Bowls Club
A CHANGING of the guard has swept through Innisfail Bowls Club, with Hayden Hohnke dethroning four time A-grade men’s singles champion Michael de Vries in a commanding 25-16 victory earlier this month.

Hohnke’s win ended de Vries’ impressive four-year title reign and kicked off a busy fortnight of competition across the club’s championship calendar.
In the B-grade men’s singles championship final on 19 June, Geoff Johnston claimed the 2026 title with a strong 25-13 win over Rob Croatto.
Championship pairs action on 15 June saw Michael de Vries and Ian Humphreys cruise to a comfortable 25-14 victory over Jim Martinod and Hayden Hohnke.

Thursday afternoon social bowls on 18 June delivered another nail biter. The team of Doug Juhas, Sam Pagano, Greg McDonald and Dennis Ryan edged out the runners up David Leach, George Edgerton and Billy Van Den Berge by a single point, finishing 21-20. In an unusual twist, all teams were perfectly balanced after the first game, each recording a score of 10-6.
The club continues to welcome new members and visitors to Thursday social bowls. Names are required by 12.30pm for a 1pm start. The $15 entry includes two games of 12 ends, smoko and a jackpot draw and an afternoon of bowls and camaraderie.
