Clear win in ladies singles
A HARD-fought singles clash set the pace for a busy week at Innisfail Bowls Club, with Daphne Kirkman securing a confident 25-16 victory over Lyn Stephenson in the latest round of the 2027 Innisfail Ladies Singles Championship on 16 September.
The competitive game paved the way for strong results across both championship and social bowls.
Championship triples also delivered decisive action, with Dell Steve, Louise Hoskins and Carol McRobbie posting a commanding 25-12 win over Ann Rule, Jan Dunn and Cheryl Higgins.
After the monthly Innisfail ladies sub-committee meeting, a strong roll-up of players took full advantage of the perfect weather for an enjoyable afternoon on the greens.
Social bowls for the ladies produced one of the week’s closest contests, with Helen Paterson and Dian Catelan locked in an 11-11 draw against Diana O’Brien and Christine Pascoe after a tight, low scoring match.
Wet weather failed to deter play at Thursday afternoon men’s social bowls on 17 September, where skip Ian Humphreys, alongside Albert Holder and Matt Aucello, edged out a narrow 26-23 win.
They finished just ahead of the team skipped by Alf Strano, with Sam Pagano and Ted Pearce rounding out another afternoon of close, entertaining bowls.
