A HARD-fought battle headlined last week’s bowls action at Innisfail Bowls Club, with Lyn Stevenson claiming a narrow 25-21 victory over Bev Anderson in the latest round of the 2027 Innisfail ladies singles championship on 9 September.
A HARD-fought battle headlined last week’s bowls action at Innisfail Bowls Club, with Lyn Stevenson claiming a narrow 25-21 victory over Bev Anderson in the latest round of the 2027 Innisfail ladies singles championship on 9 September.
The close contest set the tone for a busy week on the greens, with strong performances across both championship and social play.
Social bowls also delivered competitive match ups and action aplenty. Louise Hoskins, Marilyn Allen, Kath O’Brien, and Maisie Smith recorded a commanding 24-10 win over Helen Paterson, Dian Catelan, Cheryl Higgins, and Diana O’Brien, while Christine Pascoe, Cathy Hitchings and Julie Connors secured a solid 15-9 victory against Daphne Kirkman, Margaret Johnston, and Carol McRobbie.
Earlier in the month, an Innisfail ladies team travelled to Edmonton Bowls Club on 4 September for the Cane Train Fours, winning two of their three games in a strong showing away from home.
Five Innisfail ladies also attended the TFNQDLB president’s day at Gordonvale Bowls Club on 15 September, marking the final ladies president’s day before next year’s amalgamation with the men. The event will be a wonderful celebration of the sport and its long-standing traditions.
Competitive play continued at Thursday afternoon social bowls on 10 September, where skip Mark Elliott, alongside Vince Cooper, John Morrison and Sam Micale, secured a tight 24-22 win.
They finished just ahead of the team skipped by David Leach, with Kevin Bliss, Albert Holder and Steve Stoter rounding out another afternoon of close contests.
