Coastal plantings start
FOLLOWING successful sand nourishment works at Cardwell, South Mission Beach and Kurrimine Beach, Cassowary Coast Regional Council are now starting the next stage of coastal recovery works.

A council spokeswoman said over coming weeks, coastal vines and selected shade trees would be planted, as well as vegetation management works where needed at Cardwell, South Mission Beach and Wongaling Beach.
“Coastal vines play an important role in stabilising dunes, reducing erosion, supporting our wildlife and helping our beaches withstand and recover quicker from future weather events,” she said.
“The plants have been grown by council and C4 - Community for Coastal and Cassowary Conservation with current weather conditions providing ideal planting conditions.
“Residents are reminded to remove any personal items from foreshore areas. Items left within work areas may be removed to allow works to be completed safely and efficiently.
“Thank you for your patience and support as we continue these important recovery works to help restore and protect our coastline for future generations.”
The work is funded under disaster recovery grants.
