Commanding win by leading bowler
A COMMANDING win in the Innisfail Ladies 2027 singles championship set the tone for a strong week on the greens, with Maisie Smith claiming a confident 25-14 victory over Dell Steve in the latest round played on 7 October.

The momentum continued in the ladies championship triples final, where Lyn Stevenson, Diana O’Brien and Joan Atkinson secured a solid 15-10 win over Daphne Kirkman, Jan Dunn and Julie Connors, rounding out a standout week for the club’s women bowlers.
In social bowls, Christine Pascoe, Dian Catelan and Carol McRobbie posted a 20-12 victory over Bev Anderson, Kath O’Brien and Carol McRobbie, adding another strong result to the board.
Two carloads of Innisfail ladies also travelled to Ravenshoe on 13 October for the Torimba Festival Ladies Fun Day, continuing the club’s tradition of supporting regional bowls events.
Competitive play rolled on in the men’s, with a tight finish at Thursday afternoon social bowls on 8 October. Skip Alf Strano, alongside Rod McMillan, Greg McDonald and Peter Robertson, edged out a narrow 21-20 win, finishing just ahead of the team skipped by David Leach, with Mal Clifford and Les Cali.
Another afternoon of close contests highlighted the depth of competition across the club.
The club said the strong turnout reflects the ongoing enthusiasm for bowls in the region and extended an open invitation to new players. Men’s social bowls continue every Thursday, with names required by 12.30pm for a 1pm start.
The $15 entry includes two 12 end games, smoko and a jackpot draw offering a welcoming afternoon of bowls, camaraderie and community connection.
