Councillor marks 10 years

CASSOWARY Coast regional councillor Jeff Baines is marking 10 years in the role.
In a video presentation, he said “it’s been an honour to serve for the last 10 years”.
“It will continue to be an honour for the next two years and I would like to continue my work into the future.
“I’m not done yet. There’s plenty for us to do, and thinking about where Cassowary Coast is going to be for our kids and their kids, because the work I’m doing here today is not going to be essentially a great benefit to me personally.
“But what about we’re looking after this for our children and that’s what we need to be doing.”
Cr Baines said the most challenging part of the role, especially coming from a small business background, was learning patience, learning process, learning governance skills.
“You can’t just make things happen,” he said. “We have to think about decisions we make, what’s going to be happening in 10, 20, 30 years that may come out of those decisions.” He said two words described local government: patience and persistence.
