Cyclones whip up storm

A QUICK-FIRE half century by Clint Ratatagia helped steer the Cassowary Coast Cyclones second grade team to a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Mulgrave at Innisfail TAFE oval last Saturday.

The Cyclones team, who sported a special Indigenous playing kit, cruised to a comfortable victory in the 27th over and Darcy Herrmann finished unbeaten on 20 and John Gillett on 4 not out.

An impressive and tight bowling spell by Nicholas Rayner saw him bag four wickets which restricted Mulgrave’s scoring.

This win will provide a much-needed moral boost and sees the team move up from the bottom of the ladder to sixth.

The round 19 one-day clash between the Cassowary Coast Cyclones and Mareeba on 21 February at Innisfail TAFE oval finished in a draw with the match abandoned.

Round 19 - fouth grade senior one-day competition - 22 February, TAFE Oval, Innisfail

Cassowary Coast Cyclones 10/89 (27). Alan Candow 19 (44); Jake Payne 13 (16) def by Atherton 9/131 (32); Daljit Singh 3/22 (4); Zorveer Singh 3/21 (5) and one catch; Alan Candow 2/9 (3.4). Atherton won by 42 runs.

The Cassowary Coast Cyclones Jimmy Maher under 18 Tier 3 team will face Rovers this Saturday 28 February at Griffith at Park starting at 8am while the James Hopes Cup under 13 Tier 2 team are also against Rovers on 1 March at Cazaly’s Cairns at 8am.

In the next round of 1st grade, the Cyclones have a home game clash against ladder leaders, Barron River on 28 February at 12.30pm.

The club’s end of season presentations will take place on 19 April at El Arish Hall at 11am.
