After sitting level at 3-all six ends in, the reigning champions shifted into top gear, going on to win an impressive 14 of the 20 ends played.

With the rain finally easing, bowlers were delighted to return to fine, sunny conditions for two social games on 25 March.

Louise Hoskins, Bev Anderson and Margaret Wardrope claimed a strong 2-8 win over Marilyn Allen, Christine Pascoe and Carol McRobbie. In the other game, Daphne Kirkman, Kath O’Brien and Helen Paterson prevailed 18-11 against Diana O’Brien, Cheryl Higgins and Vera Rowe.

Attention now turns to the combined Tropical Far North Queensland eight-a-side competition, which kicks off on 29 March with Marlin Coast, Mossman, Edmonton, Stratford, Yungaburra, Gordonvale, Ravenshoe, Atherton, Silkwood, Innisfail, South Johnstone and Tully taking part.

Innisfail will meet South Johnstone in the opening round at South Johnstone, before facing Tully and Silkwood on 11 April. Fours and pairs teams from across in three sections play games of 18 ends (or 2hrs 30mins time limit).

Winners are determined by total shots for and against (margin) over the three teams (two pairs’ teams and one fours team, all teams mixed). A win means two points plus margin, a draw is one point, while a loss is a minus margin. The semi-finals and finals take place on 26 April, with the finals played over 21 ends, or a time limit of 3hrs 30mins.

With pennants scheduled for the May long weekend, local bowlers are looking forward to a busy and exciting stretch of competition ahead.
