Serving and retired police officers, as well as families of late officers, and representatives from Queensland Ambulance Service, Queensland Fire and Rescue, SES, Tully Jungle Warfare Training, Red Cross, Tully RSL, as well as local high schools and community organisations took part in the service.

Acting Inspector Amanda Winterburn delivered the police commissioner’s address, reflecting on the significance of the day.

“This day is a chance for us to pause, reflect and remember the police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty,” the statement read.

“We honour their dedication to keeping the community safe and stand united with their loved ones in acknowledging the unimaginable loss they have suffered.”

Fr Nathan McKay offered a moving reflection on the role of police in shaping safe communities.

“The life we enjoy as free Australians has been shaped by the contribution of the women and men who daily confront considerable risk and danger,” he said.

“Their professionalism and commitment preserve the safety and good order we all enjoy.”

Prayers of intercession were offered by AO Maria Lago, Constable Jarod Cook, FYC Rhys Harvey and AO Juliane Corica, followed by moments of silence for officers and staff who died in the past year. Sergeant Rod Stanley read the national and Pacific roll of honour, while candles symbolising eternal life were lit by FYCs Grace Parkinson and Constable Luke Nocon. Wreaths, floral tributes and rose petals were also laid.
