Free native trees on offer
FREE trees are being offered to Cassowary Coast residents to help green the region.

A regional council spokeswoman said residents could collect two free native trees per person.
“Whether you’re planting shade, attracting wildlife or restoring your backyard habitat, this is a great opportunity to grow local native species at home,” she said.
The spokeswoman said there was a limit of two trees per person.
“Individuals must be present to receive their tree (trees cannot be collected on behalf of others),” she said.
“Bring the family, a household of four could take home up to eight trees.”
The four collection days in April are 9 and 10 April, 8am-3.30pm, 16 and 17 April, 8am-3.30pm.
Trees can be collected from:
Innisfail nursery – corner of Campbell and Sundown streets, Innisfail
Grass block between Tully Civic Centre and Tully Library.
Species available:
Atractocarpus fitzalanii (native gardenia)
Glochidion sumatranum (umbrella cheese tree)
Syzygium wilsonii (powderpuff lily pily)
Syzygium fibrosum (apricot satin ash).
In the meantime, council’s Innisfail nursery team is looking for donations of native seed stock.
“Proposed local revegetation projects in 2026 require 50,000-65,000 trees,” the council spokeswoman said.
Donations can be dropped off at the Innisfail nursery, corner of Campbell St and Sundown Rd, on Thursdays when the nursery is open, of after hours, leave on the left side of the nursery gate.
