The critical maintenance and upgrades, include new safety doors, airconditioning, kitchen and bathroom improvements and a disability access ramp.

A dedicated volunteer is assisting with grant applications and the group is committed to progressing these projects steadily over the coming years.

A trivia night will be held on Saturday, 22 August from 6pm at the Tully Senior Citizens Hall, with big prizes and plenty of fun.

All proceeds support Centacare Tully’s School Savvy Program. Tickets are $20 which includes entry, lucky door ticket and a food platter. Table bookings can be made by phoning Christine on 0409 055 723.

The group’s June garage sale held at the Brosnan Street hut was a great success, with another planned for September.

The guides continue to be a vibrant force in the community, rolling through a busy calendar of fortnightly meetings, Clean Up Australia Day activities, camping, Friday night meat-tray raffles at Hotel Tully and lending a hand to the Local Ambulance committee and Tully Rotarians at the Tully and District Show.

Tully district manager Christine Boric encouraged more young girls to get involved, saying girl guides offers far more than people realise.

“Girl Guides gives girls access to a wide variety of activities throughout the year, including camping, canoeing and archery,” she said.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to have fun and make friends, while building confidence, self-reliance, teamwork, problem-solving and leadership skills. Girl Guides is much more than an organisation, we’re a community where everyone is respected, heard and encouraged to shine.”

Families interested in joining or learning more can contact Ms Boric on 0409 055 723 or boric@westnet.com.au.
