Golden time at nationals
FIVE fighters from Fusion Fight and Fitness Tully stepped on to the national stage at the ISKA Australian Open Muay Thai Championships held earlier this month and three returned home as freshly-crowned Australian champions.

Luke Hubert, Ozzy Sherriff, Matthew Kerr, Logan Jesse and Kody Butler competed in individual events in their respective age and weight divisions, winning a collective five medals, three of them gold.
Ozzy Sherriff, aged 16, put in a dominant Muay Thai performance against Reed Sewell in the male 16-17 years, 78.6-82.5kg novice division with his win via unanimous decision to claim gold and the ISKA Australian title.
Matthew Kerr, aged 14, who competed in the male 14-15 years (62.6 - 70.7kg novice division, took out gold and was crowned Australian Muay Thai champion after winning his bout via unanimous decision.
In Muay Thai 14-15 years, male 62.6 - 70.5kg novice division, Kody Butler, aged 15, brought home gold and a national title after he won his bout against Noah Frost via unanimous decision.
Butler also competed against Jacob Al Mansouri in kickboxing male 14-15 years (62.6 - 66.5kg) novice division, where he lost his bout by decision and finished with silver.
Luke Hubert, aged 41 lost his Muay Thai bout via decision to Richie Akuhata-Brown, last year’s champion in an age group below his in the 36+ years, male +90.6kg advanced division.
Logan Jesse, aged 13 competed in kickboxing male 14-15 years 58.6 - 62.5kg novice division and despite a loss to Oliver Foggitt in the semi-final bout he finished with bronze.
This event was a qualifier for the ISKA World championships with Hubert selected to represent Australia in his age and weight division in Spain later this year.
At the event, Fusion Fight and Fitness Tully also finished in the top 10 gyms with an impressive fifth out of 30 gyms, with three gold medals, two silver and one bronze.
Coaches Jonathan Kuhn and Jack Mills said they could not be prouder of their achievements.
“Our success is not luck, at the gym we have a system of structured training, disciplined preparation and relentless hard work at every session, round and camp. This national success achievement reflects commitment from the athletes and coaches,” they said.
