Golfers qualify for pennants
DESPITE a challenging final round at Mareeba Golf Club on 25 October, Innisfail Golf Club celebrated a major achievement with all three grades qualifying for the FNQGA pennants semi-finals to be played at Cairns Golf Club on 8 November.

While the results did not entirely fall Innisfail’s way, enough points were secured across the grades to keep premiership hopes alive.
A-grade endured a tough day, losing all five matches. However, the team still managed to qualify after tying for second place with Atherton on 18 points. They now face Half Moon Bay in the semi-final.
B-grade produced the standout result of the day with a convincing 4-1 victory.
Ian Saunderson cruised to a 5/4 win, while Ian Street fought back from two down to win one up.
Colin Lyons also mounted a remarkable comeback from four down to claim a one-up victory.
Although Luke Peters narrowly lost one up, the highlight belonged to John Casale, who rallied from four down before eventually winning his match on the 25th hole, with teammates following the action in carts and cheering him on.
B-grade will now meet Southern Districts in the semi-final.
C-grade went down 4-1 despite an impressive 5/4 victory from Stephen Todd.
The team still did enough to qualify and will now face Cairns in the semi-final. Golfers are hoping to fit in a couple of practice rounds at Cairns Golf Club before finals day.
