Good competition in ladies pairs champs
THREATENING skies and the possibility of heavy rain were not enough to stop play at Innisfail Bowls Club on 19 August, as the first round of the 2027 Innisfail Ladies Pairs Championship went ahead and delivered competitive matches.

In the opening round, Helen Paterson and Margaret Wardrope posted a convincing 22-13 win over Bev Anderson and Christine Pascoe. Meanwhile on the adjacent rink, Ann Rule and Dell Steve also impressed, defeating Diana O’Brien and Kath O’Brien 23-16 in a hard-fought contest.
A social game took place with Louise Hoskins, Marilyn Allen, Dian Catelan and swinging lead Cheryl Higgins claiming a 12-6 victory over Daphne Kirkman, Margaret Johnston, Lyn Stevenson, and Cheryl Higgins.
The busy week of bowls continued with two Innisfail ladies’ teams travelling to Cairns to compete in the Edge Hill Ladies Classic, a two-day event that drew strong regional participation.
Competitive action resumed at Thursday afternoon social bowls on 20 August, where skip Sam Micale, alongside Ian Gaffney, Sam Pagano and Rob Croatto, secured a solid win with 22 points. They finished ahead of runners-up skip Bob Chaplain, with Ted Pearce, Greg McDonald and Brad Tipping, who posted 18.
The club continues to welcome new members and visitors to Thursday social bowls, with names required by 12.30pm for a 1pm start. The $15 entry includes two 12-end games, smoko and a jackpot draw, offering a great afternoon of bowls, camaraderie, and community connection.
