Good Counsel in grand final

Case Durighello scored Good Counsel’s only try in the first half and after 60 minutes of defensive grind, with the scores locked at 4-4, the match was forced into two five minute halves of extra time.

That’s when Good Counsel leaders Tyrell Forbes and Tama Wilson stood tall, each producing clutch tries to break the deadlock and put the game out of Columba’s reach.

A late try from the Charters Towers outfit narrowed the margin, but Good Counsel held firm to secure their grand final berth on Monday, 8 June in Townsville.

Coach Brayden Huey praised his side’s defensive steel, especially on their own line.

“To keep a quality side like Columba to four points in 60 minutes of footy is massive,” he said.

“We bombed a lot of opportunities in attack, but sometimes you just must grind through a tough game. It wasn’t pretty, but we got the result we needed.”

Huey said the team would use the week off to reset and refocus.

“We’ll enjoy the lead up but won’t get complacent. The boys will be raring to go in the final.”

Good Counsel’s grand final opponent will be decided after this week’s clash between Columba Catholic College and St Teresa’s College, Abergowrie.
