Gripping showdown at bowls
A GRIPPING showdown in the 2026 B-grade championship singles lit up the first sunny day the ladies have seen in weeks, with Carolyn McRobbie outlasting Cheryl Higgins in a tense, seesawing battle.

Locked at 15-15 after 18 ends, the match hung in the balance before McRobbie surged home, dropping only three of the final –10 ends to claim a 25-19 victory.
The sunshine also brought out strong competition in social bowls, with two closely-fought matches played.
Ann Rule, Margaret Wardrope and Vera Rowe edged out Helen Paterson, Margaret Johnston and Sue Morrison 14-13, snatching the win with two shots on the last end.
In the other game, Bev Anderson, Jan Dunn and Maisie Smith/Dell Steve proved too strong for Diana O’Brien, Gail Ede and Kath O’Brien. After sitting level at 10-10 through 10 ends, Anderson’s team broke the game open with a decisive six on the 15th end, powering to a 20-14 win.
