Here’s cheers to Oktoberfest
KURRIMINE Beach is set to come alive with authentic Bavarian cheer on Saturday 24 October, as the local progress association proudly brings back its highly anticipated Oktoberfest celebration.

After a hiatus of a few years due to a busy committee, the popular event is making a triumphant return to the Kurrimine Beach Community Hall at 919 Murdering Point Road, running from 1pm through to 10pm.
Progress association president Michael Acheson said community demand played a major role in bringing the festival back for its fourth iteration.
The tradition dates back to a famous, large-scale community Oktoberfest held in the township back in 1984.
“It’s all good community spirit. It brings the community together, gives everybody a social thing to do and it’s always a very fun event,” Mr Acheson told The Observer.
“Everybody’s been on to us every year, hoping that we would do it over the last couple ... so we’ve made the time and made it happen.”
This year’s line-up promises a full day of traditional entertainment and local fun.
Attendees can look forward to authentic performances throughout the day by the Edelweiss Dance Group, followed by a live band kicking off in the afternoon to keep the crowd dancing into the evening.
Fairgoers are encouraged to dress up in their best ‘dirndls’ and ‘lederhosen’ to compete for best-dressed prizes or try their hand at classic Oktoberfest games.
Highlights include keg-rolling races, stein-holding contests and Hammerschlagen – a popular German game where participants take turns trying to drive a nail into a tree stump using a wedge hammer.
German beer will be flowing alongside delicious, traditional food options, with collectible beer steins available for purchase to keep topped up throughout the day.
To ensure everyone stays safe while enjoying the festivities, organisers are running a courtesy bus local service around Kurrimine Beach for a gold coin donation.
“Nobody needs to drive. They just give the bus a ring, it will pick them up, take them to the event, and take them home,” Mr Acheson said.
Entry is just $5, which includes annual membership to the progress association.
All locals and visitors are invited to come down, join in the fun and shout ‘prost’.
