Historic pylons removed

A Cassowary Coast Regional Council spokeswoman said to ensure the safety of the community, the pylons were removed on Tuesday last week.
“We understand the historical and sentimental value of the jetty pylons located on the foreshore,” she said.
“However, after careful assessment, it has been determined that the deteriorating condition of the timber poses a significant safety risk, particularly to children and families who visit the area.
“The timber will be carefully stored in a secure location while council works closely with the Cardwell Historical Society to determine an appropriate future for these important historical pieces.”
The spokeswoman said safety was “our highest priority”.
