Ian Street victorious in medal of medals golf final match
IT was a weekend of tight finishes, chilly fairways and stand-out performances with strong fields across Innisfail Golf Club’s weekly competitions, monthly medal and medal of medals final.
In the Wednesday all sporters on 3 June, Norm Stewart led the way with 28 points, ahead of Rob Mills (27) and Alan Cooper (25), while Stewart also claimed nearest the pin honours.
The Friday sporters on 5 June saw Joshua Lizzio take first place with 19 points, followed by Glynis McGrath (18 c/b) and John Abbott (18), with Colin Bidgood closest to the pin.
Saturday’s monthly medal 18 hole single stroke on 6 June brought crisp morning conditions and plenty of stories from the greens, from three putt frustrations to trees seemingly reaching out to catch golf balls.
Despite the challenges, Rodney Green and Amandeep Singh produced excellent rounds.
The medal of medals final proved a nail biter, with Ian Street and John Casale locked on +1. Street edged ahead on a countback to claim the title.
The club championships took place over two weekends, starting last weekend and concluding on 20-21 June.
