Kurrimine welcomes fishermen, families and friends
EXCITEMENT is building in the Cassowary Coast community as preparations ramp up for the 12th annual Kurrimine Beach Fishing and Spearfishing Classic, one of the region’s most anticipated sporting and social events.

The competition, hosted by the Kurrimine Fishing Club, promises a weekend packed with fishing, family fun, live entertainment and record-breaking prizes.
This year’s event will kick off on Friday, September 19, with entry nominations opening at 3pm in Taifalos Park on Robert Johnstone Parade. Online registrations close on September 12 at 6pm. The official weekend rundown and competition rules will be announced that evening at 7pm by none other than Channel 7’s legendary fishing presenter Scotty Hillier, who will also provide live coverage throughout the event.
Club president Grant Cook revealed that this year’s prize pool is the largest in the event’s history, with over $100,000 worth of prizes up for grabs.
The highlight is a $46,000 Renegade Quintrex Side Console package, complete with a Yamaha f70 4-Stroke Motor and Titanium Alloy 1100 ATM S 13 Skid Braked Trailer, donated by Cavs Marine & Outdoor.
On top of the super prizes, more than 62 sponsors have contributed prizes including an Engel fridge/freezer, dozens of new fishing rods and a wide array of fishing gear.
The weekend is designed to be more than just a competition. Families can enjoy food stalls, a jumping castle and children’s games hosted by the Tully Support Centre, with kids’ prizes awarded each night.
Local musician Andy G will provide live music across the event, while information pavilions will feature representatives from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Mandubarra Aboriginal Land and Sea Inc., and Queensland Fisheries.
With more than 280 club members and a newly elected committee led by Mr Cook, the Kurrimine Fishing Club is proud to deliver what is shaping up to be the biggest and most exciting competition yet.
Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to tune into 4KZ North Queensland for event updates and follow the competition’s Facebook page for the latest news leading up to the big weekend.
