Lady bowlers take to greens overlooking river
GEORGE Edgerton and Helen Paterson defeated Mal Clifford and Dell Steve, while Sammy Pagano and Diana O’Brien defeated Rod McMillan and Margaret Wardrope in the mixed pairs competition which started on 30 January.

On 6 February, Sam Pagano and Diana O’Brien had a convincing win over George Edgerton and Helen Paterson. Pagano and O’Brien will have to wait for other games to take place to determine who they will face next.
The first round of the ladies’ pairs championships on 4 February saw a very convincing win for Dell Steve and Jan Dunn. They defeated Diana O’Brien and Christine Pascoe 22 - 7, winning 14 of the 21 ends.
In a social game, Bev Anderson, Helen Paterson, Margaret Wardrope, and Carol McRobbie defeated Marilyn Allen, Margaret Johnston, Joan Atkinson, and Kath O’Brien 15 - 7. Bev Anderson played a particularly impressive game, often winning the end with her final bowl.
With some ladies on holiday and others out of action, this meant reduced numbers on the green on 11 February. Only one social game played out in steamy condition where Dell Steve/Marilyn Allen, Margaret Wardrope, Kath O’Brien and Carol McRobbie narrowly defeated Diana O’Brien, Bev Anderson, Joan Atkinson and Helen Paterson.
Currently, the ladies’ triples competition is being organised with games expected to take place in March and April. Planning is underway for teams to compete in the Atherton under the roof event, as well as the Josie Sue San Memorial Shield in Yungaburra.
