Man harmed in fire
AN intense fire has ripped through a house at Goondi Bend, Innisfail.
Police, fire and ambulance crews received calls to attend the fire at 5.30am on Thursday, August 14.
Emergency crews gained access to the house and rescued the sole occupant, a 54-year-old man who suffered life-threatening burns in the fire and was subsequently transported to Innisfail Hospital in a critical condition.
While crews battled the blaze for an hour, the Bruce Highway between Clifford Rd and Blackwood St was closed for a couple of hours.
At the scene, paramedics assisted two other people, not believed to be occupants of the house.
Police cordoned off the area and declared it a crime scene as investigations into the cause of the blaze continue. It is uncertain whether the house had smoke alarms installed.
The man’s current condition is unknown.
