Mareeba claims shield
OVER the King’s birthday long weekend in October, the Innisfail Bowls Club hosted the annual Weipa shield, attracting 10 competitive teams from across Far North Queensland.

The event saw players engage in three games per day, with weather conditions challenging even the most seasoned bowlers. However, the camaraderie and sportsmanship were in full swing throughout, with the Innisfail ladies’ BBQ on Saturday evening providing a highlight of the weekend.
When the final scores were tallied, Mareeba claimed first place, followed by Edmonton in second and South Johnstone in third. A special mention to the Weipa Bowls Club for sponsorship of the event and all the volunteers help contributed to make the tournament a momentous success.
In the first game of the 2026 B-grade championship Carol Cash claimed victory over Carol McRobbie 27 - 20 after a long, hard-fought battle.
In the second round of the B-grade club singles championship, Christine Pascoe defeated Carol McRobbie.
This set up a nail-biting final between Chrisine Pascoe and Carol Cash. Cash took an early lead, until Pascoe rallied back with impressive precision. After a dramatic back-and-forth, the score was locked at 20-20 on the 20th end, however Cash ultimately triumphed with a 25-20 victory and secured the 2026 B-grade singles title.
