Miraculous St Carlo Acutis
HUNDREDS of visitors have streamed through Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church and parish centre as the community welcomed a first class relic of St Carlo Acutis and the internationally acclaimed ‘Eucharistic Miracles’ exhibition he designed.
Students from Good Counsel Primary School and Babinda State School joined parishioners for a detailed presentation on Carlo’s life by Kate Hobbs, president of Friends of St Carlo Australia.
They spent quiet time in prayer before the relic, a section of Carlo’s heart tissue and reflected on the main place of the eucharist in Catholic life.
Parish priest Fr Kerry Crowley said what struck him was how engaged the students were during the presentation.
“There was a real identity they could make with this young person, his life and the spiritual,” he said.
“Carlo shows us holiness is not complicated. We find it in daily faithfulness, centred on the eucharist and lived out in love.”
Born in London in 1991 and raised in Milan, Carlo was a typical teenager who loved soccer, hiking, video games and spending time with friends.
Yet his spirituality ran deep. Gifted in computer programming and graphic design, Carlo created a website between ages 11 and 15 cataloguing 134 scientifically documented eucharistic miracles from around the world dating back to the 8th century.
After his diagnosis of acute leukaemia in 2006, Carlo died four days later aged 15.
Two miracles attributed to Carlo’s intercession, the healing of a Brazilian boy, six, in 2013 who suffered from an acute pancreatic disorder and a young Costa Rican woman in 2022, who fully recovered from a devastating brain injury.
