‘Murder’ leaves town abuzz
A PACKED house at the Tully Masonic Centre was left buzzing after the Tully Arts and Culture Precinct’s first-ever murder mystery night, where a room full of lords, ladies, artists, collectors and even an art thief or two tried and failed to unmask the murderer.
In a twist worthy of the stage, the culprit escaped detection entirely, leaving guests laughing, debating and already eager for the next instalment.
Themed ‘The art of murder,’ the evening saw 18 players arrive in full costume, each assigned a character in advance.
Their enthusiasm and humour set the tone for a night of intrigue, theft and theatrical fun.
A stand-out performance came from Marcus Thomas, a key member of the Tully theatre community, who played the detective and kept the crowd entertained as clues unfolded.
Organisers say the event tapped into a growing appetite for cultural and theatrical experiences in Tully.
“I love my community and want to contribute to it socially and culturally,” Christine Fittock said.
“Events like this not only provide entertainment but also give artists an opportunity to perform,” she said.
The night was hosted by Rod and Christine Fittock, who were praised for delivering a “superlative evening” for the gathered crowd.
Following the success of the sold-out event, TA&CP is already taking bookings for its Christmas murder mystery on 28 November, which promises another night of twists and surprises.
The setting for July’s mystery was an art gallery, taking full advantage of the current TA&CP exhibition at the Tully Masonic Centre, open Wednesday to Saturday, 10am-2pm until 1 August.
The annual book fair, TA&CP’s annual fundraiser will also run from 29 July to 1 August. All kinds of books include thrillers, murder, mystery, fantasy, fishing, recipes, personal health, research, vintage, music, art, numerology, bridge, travel, history and more. Grab a bag of books for $5, a free section for kids and videos are 10 for $5.
Visitors can also explore the TA&CP pop-up shop at the Masonic Centre, offering an impressive range of original artworks and merchandise created by local artists.
The exhibition itself invites viewers to consider how artists have responded to this year’s themes of ‘Tradition, ritual and community, with all works available to buy.
