Near-course record sets games alight on golf club greens
A NEAR-course record and some standout personal bests lit up the 18-hole Stableford competition on 23 May, after golfers received instructions to “play it as it lies” in perfect sunshine.

Despite the ideal weather conditions, only three players managed to better their handicap and most of the day’s best scores came from the morning groups.
Andrew Rose topped the field with 39 points, while John Casale produced a new personal best, shooting 77 off the stick for 38 points. Mick Wilkinson also impressed, carding 37 points after wielding the putter with precision.
The round’s biggest storyline belonged to Rose, who was on track for a new course record before a rare bogey on the final hole saw him finish with an impressive 67 off the stick.
The afternoon players pushed hard, with Steven Marsh leading the later groups on 34 points. With two washes on his card, his round had the potential to be something special.
