Ona Mission adventure race
ENTRIES are open for one of the Far North’s most loved and scenic adventure races – the Ona Mission Multisport Adventure Race catering for teams, individuals, novices, experts and juniors (13-17).
The Ona Mission Multisport Adventure Race is staged at Mission Beach and Dunk Island, with running and riding on beaches and through lush rainforest and with ocean paddling.
The event – which includes both short and long courses for teams and individuals – will be held on Sunday September 14.
The call is now out for participants who love the great outdoors.
The Ona Mission Event has options for course length and type.
A short course – with two 4km paddles, a 7km and a 4km run, and a 23km bike ride.
A long course – an 8km and a 4km paddle, an 11km and 10km run and a 30km bike ride.
Entrants will paddle from South Mission Beach to Dunk Island, run the island’s rainforest walking trails, paddle back to the mainland to ride beach, road and rainforest trails and then run along the beach and beachside forest trails to the finish line on South Mission Beach.
Organisers say entrants can expect a picturesque course, a relaxed feel and a great day out for novices, juniors and seasoned adventure racers alike.
Now in its 18th year, the Ona Mission Multisport Adventure Race is also a drawcard for the tropical tourist town of Mission Beach with entrants from Townsville to Cairns and beyond.
“With a long course and a short course and the choice of teaming up with friends or taking on the event as a solo competitor, it’s popular with a wide range of people,’’ club president Richard Blanchette said.
“It’s also a great way to showcase Mission Beach and the Far North. There’s plenty of rainforest and palm tree lined beaches, and a spectacular lookout on Dunk Island with views to the mainland and other islands. You get to see the best of Mission Beach.’’
