Our Riverfest Queen
MORE than 10,000 people lined the banks of the Johnstone River on Saturday for the fourth Innisfail Riverfest, transforming the Esplanade into a vibrant celebration of colour, culture and community pride under perfect skies.

From aerobatics overhead to fireworks lighting up the river, the festival delivered one of its biggest and most energetic days yet.
The free family event showcased the best of the Cassowary Coast, with crowds enjoying live entertainment, interactive displays, jet‑boat action and a packed program of local performers.
Riverfest opened in spectacular fashion with Tait’s Family Martial Arts helping the Lit Sing Gong Temple committee launch the event through a traditional lion dance, complete with fan techniques, umbrella twirlers and a baby lion.
A dazzling aerobatic display by pilot Bob Harris in a decathlon aircraft drew gasps from the crowd, while families flocked to the interactive reptile exhibit by RESTA Educational Services. Kids’ amusement rides and the MSF loco kept young festival‑goers busy throughout the day.
Food stalls, fundraisers and a full entertainment schedule added to the festival atmosphere, with Riverfest ambassador Paul Burt from Step Outside bringing a touch of star power.
Live performances included Zumba with Jess, Innisfail East State School drummers, Locky Wayne, Suburban Disturbance, Innisfail Community Band, Just Sing It, Temple Rain belly dancers, Beer and Body, and Dance Works Academy.
Australian rock band Eskimo Joe headlined the main stage, delivering a high‑energy set that had the crowd singing and dancing before Xplosive Art’s fireworks lit up the night sky over the river.
This year’s Riverfest Queen crown went to Amity Stewart, recognised for her confidence, enthusiasm and grace throughout the quest. Ms Stewart will represent Riverfest and the Cassowary Coast over the next year.
Sofia Xiong was awarded Miss Community Spirit for her kindness, generosity and willingness to support others.
South Johnstone State School won the ‘Many Pieces, One Community’ puzzle art competition, with judges praising the creativity and teamwork behind their entry with Innisfail State Primary School in second place.
Riverfest president Cameron Seamark, now in his third year, said the event captured the essence of Innisfail.
“Riverfest is about bringing the community together to celebrate our beautiful rivers and the lifestyle they give us,” he said.
“It’s also a fantastic opportunity for local businesses and volunteers to give back and be part of something that makes Innisfail proud.”
Community feedback was glowing.
Innisfail Defenders Touch Association said it was “an incredible evening … a fantastic event.”
Robyn Brakels said: “Awesome night. Great music, great fireworks and wonderful to see so many families enjoying the festival.”
