PCYC takes over town’s pool
INNISFAIL’s Aquatic Centre will be under new management when the pool reopens after its annual winter shutdown.

Cassowary Coast Regional Council has appointed PCYC Queensland as the new operators of the aquatic centre.
It follows an 18-month stint by Marlin Coast Swimming and Fitness which ended on 31 May.
The pool is now in shutdown – through June and July – during which time scheduled maintenance and repair works will be carried out ahead of the facility reopening in August under PCYC Queensland.
The appointment gained approval at a recent council meeting and followed a tender process for the facility’s future management, which council said received multiple competitive submissions.
“It’s great to see such a well-known organisation awarded the contract,” Cassowary Coast Mayor Theresa Millwood said.
“PCYC Queensland is already a major contributor to our local community,” she said.
“PCYC in Innisfail already provide important programs for our youth and affordable memberships for our local families, with something for all ages and all levels of fitness.
“The management of the Innisfail Aquatic Centre will be a natural extension of this and we look forward to seeing what PCYC Queensland brings to the facility and the wider community.”
Marlin Coast let the public know about the impending end of its management term via the Innisfail Pool Facebook page, where it also thanked pool-goers.
“Our time managing Innisfail Aquatic Centre is coming to an end and we wanted to take a moment to thank you all for being such a wonderful community,” the company’s post said.
“Whether you were here for sunrise laps or swimming lessons, thanks you for making us feel welcome.”
Cr Millwood also thanked the outgoing managers.
“Marlin Coast Swimming and Fitness provided a wonderful service to the community and I’m sure they will be missed by many regular pool users,” she said.
PCYC Queensland CEO Phil Schultz said the organisation was excited to expand its presence in the region.
“We are extremely pleased to be diving into the management of the Innisfail Aquatic Centre,” Mr Shultz said.
“PCYC Queensland already has a presence in this region, with PCYC Innisfail offering programs and sport and recreation to the area’s young people,” he said.
“It’s very rewarding to now also be able to offer our aquatic services to this terrific community.”
