A BIG roll up and perfect winter weather set the scene for a stand-out day at Innisfail Bowls Club on 26 August.
Players enjoyed a lively afternoon on the green and generous vouchers were awarded to the winners and runners up.
The team of Louise Hoskins, Marilyn Allen and Kath O’Brien dominated on the day, defeating Diana O’Brien, Margaret Wardrope and Carol McRobbie with a commanding 30-8 victory.
Helen Paterson, Dian Catelan and Cathy Hitchings finished as runners up after posting an 18-10 win over Daphne Kirkman, Bev Anderson and Margaret Johnston.
On Sunday 30 August, Innisfail members travelled to South Johnstone Bowls Club to celebrate Louise Hoskins’ Commonwealth Games gold medal, recognising her para bowls pairs triumph at Glasgow.
Looking ahead, an Innisfail team will compete at the Bamboo Festival at Yungaburra Bowls Club on 1 September, followed by the annual Cane Train Fours hosted by Brothers Edmonton Bowls Club on 4 September.
Men’s Bowls
FORTY club members and visitors made the most of Innisfail’s sunshine on Thursday 27 August turning out for great social bowls in ideal conditions.
Competitive matches produced plenty of highlights, with the team skipped by Alf Srano, alongside Albert Holder, Wade Zangrande and Trevor Anderson, finishing strongly to claim victory with a score of 23.
They edged out the team of Wayne O’Neill, Joe Van Tienen, Greg Matfin and Geoff Jensen, the runners up on 20, while Mark Elliott, Geoff Johnston, Blake Moreland and John Fossey finished in third place with 18.
The club continues to welcome new members and visitors to its popular Thursday social bowls.
Names are required by 12.30pm for a 1pm start. The $15 entry includes two 12 end games, smoko and a jackpot draw, offering great value and a friendly afternoon of bowls and community connection.
